Comme Chez Soi

Brussels 2009. Trip for my wife’s seminar and a chance for me to go too.

Trip for a seminar for my wife and a trip for tastes for me.

My destination is the restaurant Comme chez soi. A restaurant with two Michelin stars and the only restaurant with any stars in Brussels at the time. Fact amazing if you consider that Brussels is a destination that people come from all over the world and there is only one awarded restaurant.

Saturday night having no jet lag we were around 20:30 outside the restaurant. Enjoyable decoration in style art nouveau, I found it very interesting. They guide us to our table that had view to the cuisine and the only thing between us was a glass partition. Plenty of light in the dining hall something that I liked because I don’t enjoy eating with moody lighting. I also liked the professional service of the restaurant.

The menu included:

Smoked salmon roll and crab with soy jelly and green Japanese pepper sanshou.

Mullet and chopped oyster in vinegar chardonnay and coulis with Maldon salt.

Scallop with a mixture of spices ras el hanout, carrot foam and Espelette chili.

Deer nouazet with watercress and pepper, mushrooms saute and mashed celeriac

Slices of pheasant with white truffle and risotto with Chinese cabbage

Compote of pears and vanilla syrup, sorbet with Williamine

Almond cookie with chocolate topping and salty coconut caramel.

All the dishes were well cooked and balanced without any surprises. None of them excited me but I did not dislike any dish either. I find that it is a great restaurant for professional lunches and to make a deal but, according the dishes I tried, it didn’t have something special that would make a lover of good cuisine to be excited.
